Leading on from her project Solutions for a Sustainable Art Practice, Shemza invites other creatives to learn the skills she developed whilst on her three-month artist development program, supported by the Arts Council England. During this one day class, you will learn how to melt and compress High-Density Polyethylene plastic (milk bottles and food containers) to create sheet material that can be used in a variety of creative ways. Not only will you learn how to recycle the plastic you will also learn how to cut and shape it too; creating coasters and jewelry to take home with you.

Light Sculpture Workshop

Shemza will provide a hands-on two-day workshop where participants will make their own light sculpture to take home with them. Not only will each participant walk away with a unique piece of light art, they will also develop invaluable skills in the following areas; soldering, basic micro-electronics, Arduino, sculpture making, circuit integration and a basic introduction to Arduino programming in C++. The workshop will start from the basics and leave participants with the skills and confidence to integrate electronics into their projects in the future.

This workshop has been a sold out success every time it has been run in London since 2018. The team, Aphra Shemza and Jamie Howard, provide a hands-on two-day workshop where participants learn how to create a sound reactive light sculpture. Not only does each participant walk away with a stunning interactive sculpture, they also developed invaluable skills in the following areas; soldering, basic micro-electronics, prototyping on a breadboard, testing components, circuit integration, Arduino and Arduino programming in C++.

Interactive Light Sculpture Workshop

In this two day workshop held at the V&A participants were invited to explore the intersection of sculpture, light and electronics with light artist Aphra Shemza. The group learned how to make their own interactive light sculpture based on designs from the V&A collection. Participants also developed invaluable skills in the following areas: prototyping electronics, Arduino programming, soldering, and keep their creation at the end of the workshop.
